What is PAUPER?!

a competitive format that allows players to use any card that was printed as a common in any Magic set, as long as it's not on the banned list.

  • Card legality

Any card that was printed as a common in paper format or appeared as common in a Magic Online set is legal.

  • Deck size

Decks must have at least 60 cards, and no more than four copies of any card other than basic lands.

  • Cost

Pauper is considered one of the most affordable formats in Magic: The Gathering because it only uses common cards.

  • Accessibility

It's easy to build a Pauper deck using leftover cards from other sets, and it's possible to create multiple decks.

  • Player base

Pauper has one of the most committed player bases in Magic: The Gathering.

Pauper originated as a Magic Online-only format in 2017, but was later made available on tabletop. The Pauper Format Panel (PFP) was created to help bridge the gap between players and Wizards of the Coast, who may not have the expertise to craft the format. The PFP helps with decisions like removing or unbanning cards to keep the format engaging.
